Xoliswa Nduneni-­Ngema, together with her husband, Mbongeni Ngema, started a production company, Committed Artists, that birthed the Broadway hit ‘Sarafina!’

Lavish parties with South African legends like Hugh Masekela and Miriam Makeba, first-class trips to New York and shopping in Paris followed. When the play premiered on Broadway on 28 January 1988, at the Cort Theatre, and closed on 2 July 1989. After 597 performances and 11 previews, many did not realise just how hard the creators and the actors had worked to make the play a success.
