The UK has united behind Princess Kate, with a massive surge of support for her after she revealed her cancer diagnosis.

Celebrities, politicians and the public have all sent the Princess of Wales their best wishes and vowed to pray for her recovery, after Kate announced that she was in the early stages of preventive chemotherapy, following her January stay in hospital for abdominal surgery.

People across the UK and around the world gathered to hear the announcement.

Many were spotted outside Buckingham Palace, reading the news on their mobile phones, looking shocked and concerned.

The princess is the third member of the royal family to be stricken with the disease. Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, and Kate’s father-in-law, King Charles III, were also diagnosed with it recently.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak led messages of support for the princess from across the political spectrum and praised her “tremendous bravery” after her announcement, which followed weeks of mounting speculation and wild rumours in both the media and on social platforms about her ailment.

Giovanna Fletcher and Dr Alex George were among the celebrities who have met the Princess of Wales and were sending her good wishes after her cancer diagnosis announcement.

Members of the public have also been spotted gathering outside Kensington Palace, the official residence of the Prince and Princess of Wales.

One woman said the news was “incredibly sad”. “Whenever anybody gets cancer, it’s a horrible thing to hear and I can only imagine what her family’s going through right now.

“I hope they do everything they can for her and that she’s able to recover,” she said.

Members of the press have also gathered outside the palaces to provide updates for news channels across the world.
