Malema's deputy, Floyd Shivambu, only attended 10 out of 55 (18%) committee meetings in 2023. Not exactly role models of commitment.

The problem with starting your own political party is the need to remind everyone that it is yours to run as you please. This week EFF leader Julius Malema forced party MPs to publicly apologise for failing to attend a parliamentary meeting.

Yet, as ANC MP Nonceba Mhlauli pointed out, Malema is a 'do-as-I-say' – not a 'do-as-I-do' – leader. She found his public apology gimmick somewhat hilarious, since he himself only attended six out of 40 (15%) committee meetings in 2023.

His deputy, Floyd Shivambu, only attended 10 out of 55 (18%). Not exactly role models of commitment.

A politician who earns R1.2 million per year has pleaded poverty as she fights for R10 million to which she claims she is entitled. EFF MP Busi Mkhwebane, the former inept Public Protector, has filed court papers seeking the cash. She has threatened to sue the Office of the Public Protector if it does not cough up.

The money is normally given to outgoing Public Protectors after they vacate office, but Mkhwebane did not vacate office – she was removed from it.

She now says she is “suffering”. Can someone give the poor soul a R350 grant?

No one who understands South African politics realistically expects Bosa leader Mmusi Maimane to be our next president, despite his announcement that he was running for that office. However, the Dobsonville priest did score one over his critics this week when he tantalisingly said he was going to speak on the future of Bosa.

Most of his critics thought he had failed to amass enough signatures to register to appear on the ballot paper. Some even asked whether he was going back to modelling. Yet, to a full media turnout, Maimane announced that he had received double the required signatures.
