ANC veteran Mavuso Msimang’s resignation from the ANC may be newsworthy and theoretically valuable. In real terms, there is nothing unique about it.
On a daily basis, members resign from their political parties and have all manner of reasons to do so. In fact, many of the new political parties were formed by former members of other political parties. Every one of them has suddenly become aware that their former political party is not good enough. Most have spent considerable time with their former political parties and have, over the years, campaigned vigorously for those parties.
Where Msimang may have some point is in dealing with corruption and those members who are implicated. Even then, he knows as well that, with corruption being the cancer that it is, dealing with it is no easy task. He has been in the ANC long enough to know that historically, the ANC has its own ways, some of which are not always the best.
