COMEDIAN Tumi "Stopnonsons" Matila made a brief appearance in the Randburg Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 8 May.

The case was withdrawn as there was no prospect for success. The complainant also filed a withdrawal statement.

On Wednesday, 3 April, the 32-year-old Joburg-based comedian appeared in court and his matter was postponed for mediation between the complainant and the accused.

The TV host faced two counts of assault and one of pointing an object resembling a firearm.

During court proceedings, the magistrate who stood in for Magistrate Louise Etchell said the State Prosecutor could have found the right words to use regarding the matter being withdrawn.

"I wanted clarity when you said it was withdrawn. Withdrawn how? As I'll give reasons based on that," he said.

He said she could have said that the complainant no longer wanted to continue with the case and had submitted the withdrawal statement.

On Wednesday, 8 May, the case was postponed due to absenteeism from the two complainants.

The state prosecutor said the state requested a postponement as the complainants were not in court.

She said they would ask the investigating officer to check their whereabouts.

The magistrate said the comedian must be on time and honour his bail conditions for his next appearance.

She said failure to do so would result in his arrest and bail conditions revoked.

The comedian allegedly assaulted his girlfriend Thando Ngemane and her friend Tsholofelo Kgosimotho after a fall-out.

He was arrested and detained at the Honeydew Police Station on Tuesday, 7 August 2023 and was released on R2 000 bail.

When Daily Sun approached him after his appearance, the comedian ran away and didn't want to comment.
