A waterless toilet provides clean and safe sanitation for informal residents (Ntando Mbhele/ Supplied).
A waterless flushing toilet, to help communities that lack water and sanitation infrastructure, is now being rolled out in Durban.
Loowatt, is a UK-based company founded in 2009 by Virginia Gardiner. Their solution was launched in South Africa last year and was branded Kaloola, the isiZulu word meaning "very easy".
Instead of water, these toilets use a thin plastic film that seals the waste.
