AfroCentric, one of SA's largest medical scheme administrators, said on Monday Santam's CEO for client solutions, Gerald van Wyk, would take up the position of CEO with effect from the end of October.
Van Wyk will replace current CEO Ahmed Banderker, whose five-year term is nearing conclusion, and who will also be taking up a position with Sanlam Group with effect from 1 November.
Sanlam concluded its acquisition of a 60%, or controlling stake, in the black-owned investment holding company in May.

Valued at about R3.4 billion on the JSE, AfroCentric's interests include medical aid administrator and risk manager Medscheme, as well as SA's largest online courier pharmacy, Pharmacy Direct.
Van Wyk has held various key positions throughout his extensive career, including executive roles at Santam, as well as leadership positions at Discovery Insure, Mutual & Federal and Hollard, among others, AfroCentric said on Monday.
Van Wyk is also past president and former executive council member of the Insurance Institute of Gauteng, it said - and, "as a result, he holds strong reinsurer, insurer, broker and service provider networks and relationships across southern Africa". His educational background is a BCom in Risk Management from Unisa, while he completed the Management Development Programme at Stellenbosch University and the General Management Programme at Harvard University.
AfroCentric also announced on Monday it had appointed former CEO of Liberty Health Andrew Schwulst as CEO of Medscheme.
Throughout his career, Schwulst has held various senior leadership roles, including serving as a director for several entities within the Liberty Health group of companies. Over a period of 12 years, he worked for a number of large private hospital groups - two of those years in Australia and 10 years with the Netcare group in SA, the group said.
