The television channels e.tv Extra, eToonz, eMovies and eMovies Extra will remain on DStv for at least the next six months.

Last year, DStv owner MultiChoice announced that it would not renew the channels for commercial reasons after a five-year agreement ended.

The owner of the four channels, eMedia, referred the matter to the Competition Tribunal, arguing that MultiChoice's refusal to carry the channels amounts to an abuse of dominance in contravention of the Competition Act.

In August last year, the Competition Appeal Court interdicted Multichoice from removing the channels ahead of a hearing into the matter, which will take place in August 2024.

An interim order has lapsed, but on Monday, the Competition Tribunal extended it for another six months from this week – or pending the conclusion of the hearing, whichever occurs first. MultiChoice opposed the extension application.
