Despite how they look on the shelves, not all lighters are equal - and some appear to be deliberately trying to hide how much value they offer. Many leading brands obscure butane levels, don't fill tanks close to capacity, and won't allow you to refill them.
And, despite appearances to the contrary, those long-nose braai lighters are likely a worse investment than a traditional pocket lighter, with some offering thousands of "lights" less - despite costing more than double.
Worse still, single-use plastic lighters are difficult to recycle, meaning they will join billions of others in landfills.
