President Cyril Ramaphosa has signed an amendment to SA's key anti-corruption legislation, making it a criminal offence for state and private companies to fail to prevent corruption.
The new law is modelled on laws on the books of other countries that criminalise failing to prevent bribery and graft. It was first proposed by Chief Justice Raymond Zondo in his State Capture Report.
Under Section 34 of the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act (Precca), company bosses already have a duty to report knowledge or suspicion of possible corruption or fraud to the police.
