Schalk Louw of PSG Wealth helped News24 crunch the numbers and determine which counters were among the 10 best-performing shares on the JSE in 2023. Here is a list of the top performers, along with a brief explanation of what helped drive their performance.

Harmony Gold (+105.17%)

The gold price had a stellar year in 2023, reaching a record high of $2 135 in early December as continued geopolitical tensions underpinned by the Russia-Ukraine war and conflict in the Middle East enhanced the yellow metal's safe haven status.
