Transnet Freight Rail's (TFR) announcement last month that it had achieved all of its targets in the annual shut of the iron ore corridor was economical with the truth as the ramp-up of the line is only due to happen in mid-January.
In a statement on 25 November, TFR said it had completed 102% of the maintenance targets for the shut by 17 November. It said:
The full design capacity of the line is 52 slots, seven more than it has been running. The annual shut is used to do critical maintenance on each of TFR's main corridors. TFR also said that the excellent work done on the shut would "support the company in running a reliable and efficient operation and inspire customer confidence".
