With barely a month until Black Friday, the fallout from the recently ended Transnet strike looks set to pile pressure on the supply chains of smaller businesses, while SA’s biggest retailers are more likely to escape unscathed.
Larger retailers have used their deep pockets to stock up, and have already focused on local sourcing of goods to combat pre-existing global supply chain challenges prompted by the Covid-19 pandemic and Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
This bodes well for their main promotional periods, such as Black Friday and the broader December festive season, which is of particular importance as they look to benefit from improved trading in this key period without having to battle Covid-19 restrictions.
