New agreements between Anglo American's De Beers and the government of Botswana have been touted as a 'win-win,' with the southern African country set to gain greater control over the sales and marketing of its diamonds.
The miner, meanwhile, has locked in mining rights for two of the world's richest diamond mines for another quarter of a century.
The deal ticks all the boxes, De Beers Group CEO Al Cook told News24 on Monday. "We had to create value for the shareholders of De Beers and Anglo American, and … we had to make sure that we had a win for Botswana.
