As almost a hundred container vessels are stuck waiting outside South Africa’s ports, Transnet said it has introduced more berths for container vessels to anchor at the Cape Town Port to battle ongoing congestion.
The port exports 35% of the country's agricultural produce. Transnet said it would also introduce a dedicated, scheduled slot system and more than 100 plug points at the facility.
Transnet expects seven second-hand Rubber-Tyred Gantry Cranes (RTGs) - to add to its current fleet of 19 machines - to arrive in mid-December.
