A consultancy employed by the Gauteng provincial government to create thousands of youth job opportunities must pay back R52 million, after a court found it could show hardly any proof that it helped anyone.
Amahlo Consulting Services was employed by the Gauteng Enterprise Propeller (GEP) in 2016 as the project coordinator for an ambitious job-creation scheme called Project Vuthela.
In the three years to 2019, the project was supposed to have created 75 000 job opportunities to reduce Gauteng's stubbornly high youth unemployment rate.
