Clicks CEO Vikesh Ramsunder says the backlash the company faced last month after publishing the divisive TRESemmé advert made him realise how he and his leadership team needed to focus more on diversity, and on bringing in people with "different lenses" to the decision-making table.
"What the incident did was make sure that the conversation around diversity continues within our company. It actually became a positive catalyst because it was actually not about transformation, but diversity," he said.
Speaking to Fin24 after the release of the company's financial results on Thursday, Ramsunder said Clicks has always been mindful of the fact that more diverse organisations produce better commercial returns over the long-term. But the public outcry from the dull and damaged hair advert sparked a conversation about accelerating diversity.
