Thanks to many years of state capture and other forms of corruption, South Africa is littered with once shining, even celebrated, person brands that got thrown out of the fast-moving corporate and public sector trains after they refused to take part in and benefit from corrupt activities or other forms of wrongdoing, refused to enable such activities even after having been instructed by powerful company or political superiors to use their positions to authorise things they knew would be wrong, or who simply spoke out against such activities when they became aware of them.
