Petro de Luanda coach Alexandre Santos has reportedly drawn the interest of an African giant amid reports linking him with Kaizer Chiefs.

A top African club is now said to have shortlisted a manager previously linked with Kaizer Chiefs as their potential next coach.

It is no secret Amakhosi are in serious search of a new permanent boss, with the club's sporting director Kaizer Motaung Junior having confirmed that interim coach Cavin Johnson will vacate the helm once a full-time replacement is secured.

Various foreign coaches have been linked with the role, including former Egypt boss Rui Vitoria, ex-Nigeria mentor Jose Peseiro, and Tunisian tactician Nasreddine Nabi.

Petro de Luanda boss Alexandre Santos is another manager linked with taking over at Naturena, but it is now reported that the Portuguese mastermind has other potential suitors in the continent.

Tanzanian giants Simba SC, who recently parted ways with Algerian coach Abdelhak Benchikha, have shortlisted Santos as one of their managerial candidates, according to IPP Media.

A source close to the club told the publication that the process to hire a new head coach is already in motion with management wanting a new man in charge before the upcoming transfer window opens, which will be after the season ends on 28 May.

"Many players' contracts are ending, and negotiations have been put on hold," the source told IPP Media.

"Without a head coach, who will sign off new contracts?

"Ideally, we'd find someone before the season ends. This coach could assess the current squad and determine the direction for transfers.

"Additionally, they could advise on who should stay and who should leave amongst those whose contracts expire.

"We won't be publicly inviting applications. We have coaches in mind, and discussions have already begun. The goal is to find someone who aligns with our philosophies and delivers the results we expect."

Other candidates for the Simba job alongside Santos reportedly also include current TP Mazembe head coach Lamine N'Diaye and former Wydad Casablanca manager Omar Najhi.

Before joining Petro in 2021, Santos was in charge of Portuguese third-tier side FC Alverca, but since his arrival in Angola, he has won back-to-back league titles, in the 2021/22 and 2022/23 campaigns.
