5 make-up must-haves for spring!

accreditation
Blue eye shadow
No longer the staple of mad old grannies, blue eye shadow is being spotted all over the catwalk. In fact, just about every major cosmetics house, from Dior to Givenchy have included a blue-riddled eye palette in their spring make-up collection. To wear it, experiment with blue eyeliner or create a blue smokey eye. And forget that rule that if you’ve got blue eyes you shouldn’t go near it. Everyone who’s anyone seems to be ignoring it...

To get Smurfy in style, take a look at Clarins Colour Quartet for Eyes in So Sublime,  R395, from their new Cotton Flower collection - it’s a total lust-have.  A real must-have, however, is Revlon Colorstay 12 Hour eyeshadow quad in Gem & Jewels, R135.

Coral lipstick
Coral lips are one of springs biggest trends, but be warned – if your smile isn’t as bright as you’d like it, you might want to give this look a skip as this colour can emphasise the yellow in your teeth. Instead, opt for a bold red (another hot spring hue) and try a little tangerine on your toes.

A coral lippie we love? Rimmel Moisture Renew lipstick in Coral Queen, R69,95.

Hot new nail polish
The quickest way to update your look? With a super-trendy nail colour! Nail shades have never been brighter, quirkier or more fun. Just a few of the most fashion-forward hues to choose from include minty green, taupe, turquoise, yellow (yes, really), coral, peach, lilac and sheer baby pink.

Two of our favourite nail polishes to date are Essie Mint Candy Apple, R89,95 and O.P.I. You Don't Know Jacques!, R120. The latter is the best dupe we’ve seen for Chanel Particuliere, the a shade of putty so trendy, it’s pretty much sold out across the globe.

Nude-looking blush
Right now, barely there blush is big, big news. To ensure it makes you look wondrous as opposed to washed out, pick natural-looking shades that have a hint of warmth to them. Think nudes with either a pinch of peach, hint of rose or breath of plum.

Some of our favourite ‘my-cheeks-but-better’ blush include Essence 2 in 1 Mineral powder blush in Miss Pretty, R39,95, and Bourjois powder blush in Sienne, R99,95.

If, however, these shades don’t float your boat, pop on over to a M.A.C. or Bobbi Brown counter. They’ve got so much blush, your head will spin – and lovely assistants who’ll be happy to help you meet your match).

Glow enhancers
Forget heavy foundations and leave your bronzer alone for a bit – right now, the skin that’s ‘in’ is dewy, clean and fresh-looking.

Elizabeth Arden Mineral Pure Finish Mineral tinted moisturiser, R235, has an SPF of 15 and is infused with antioxidants with vitamins A, C and E. Best of all, they realise that skin tone stretches beyond Light, Medium, and Dark! Their shade selection is huge!

Another light-bending lovely? The Body Shop Brush-on Radiance, R160. A cutsey little tub of shimmering powder beads with light diffusing particles and pearl pigments, it’ll help add a touch of brightness and colour to your face.
