Black lipstick is being touted as the next big makeup trend, partly thanks to social media – as always. Those who are bold in their style choices have long donned a bold shade of noir to complete their makeup looks.
But now, with interior design, fashion and photography trends once again bleeding into each other and influencing the expression of personal style, moody makeup is in style.

1. Rihanna
At the Anti album artwork reveal complemented by Bantu knots, on red carpet events and in Fenty Beauty campaigns, Rihanna has rocked a black lippie on more than one occasion.
2. Katy Perry
In 2016, during the biggest night of fashion at the Met Gala – where you either go big or go home – Katy Perry brought out a stunner beauty look: bleached brows, blue mascara and a dark lipstick that matched her raven hair.
3. Joan Smalls
In a minimal evening look at the afterparty for the 2013 Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater's benefit gala, the model pairs her deep lip colour with blue eyeshadow.
4. Lorde
While exactly on-brand for the young music sensation at the time, Lorde in black was a great moment in time for pop culture. This also meant the singer wore plenty of dark lipstick like when she attended The Brit Awards in 2014.
5. Hailey Bieber
Hardly one to shy away from style risks, the model punctuated her beauty look with a bold lip – also at The Brit Awards, but this time in 2018.
