How Alicia Keys was affected by her dad's absence - 'I definitely was always looking for his love'

Alicia admitted she spent years looking for her father's love, and ultimately felt she wasn’t worthy of his affection.

“I realised that I have deeply struggled with feelings of self-worth. My father didn’t raise me, my mother raised me. I think I definitely was always looking for his love, to some degree, and felling like I could never really access it, for many different reasons. And I think that started to give me insecurities,” Alicia tells Apple Music

The 39-year-old singer eventually came to terms with her self-worth struggle, but says she only overcame her insecurities in the last four years. Previously the singer revealed she had been wearing a mask, “I was building my life around this image of perfection, and it was really oppressive. I was clearly a woman who wanted to talk about truth and empowerment and strength, but when I really looked at myself, I realized that my whole life I’ve kind of been putting on a mask,” she adds.
