  • Fathers usually promise their daughters that they will pay for their wedding.
  • This father backed down on his promise after the daughter refused to make her wedding vegan.
  • The bride-to-be has decided to uninvite both her father and his vegan girlfriend to her wedding.

It's not uncommon for fathers to pay for their daughters' weddings, but this may bring up some demands that a father may have regarding the wedding.

This bride decided to uninvite her father and his girlfriend to her wedding after he said he would only pay something towards the wedding if everything were vegan, including the shoes the guests were wearing.

She took to Reddit to ask users if she was wrong.

She began the story by telling users that she is 30 years old, and ever since she was a child, her father always said he would pay for her wedding. Then, about five years ago, her father started dating a woman with extreme views.

"She is a vegan, which is fine, but she is very judgmental about how I live. She doesn't agree with cancer scans, like pap smears or mammograms, because vegans 'don't get cancer'. When I had my daughter, she said I should feed her almond milk."

She adds that the woman once came over to her house for dinner. She had cooked chicken for her family and a nut roast for her father and his girlfriend, and she didn't take it well.

"She later dug a hole in my garden to give the chicken bones a proper funeral because she was so heartbroken to see us eating its blood and flesh."

That wasn't the only extreme thing she did, she also made some absurd accusations about the bride.

"She also accused me of trying to steal her father's house. I have never met her father, I have never set foot in her father's house. All I know is he died recently."

She also said she once spoke to her father about some financial worries she was going through without asking for help from him, but the father's girlfriend thought she was trying to manipulate her father to give her the girlfriend's inheritance.

Fast forward to the wedding, the father says he will only pay for her wedding if it's vegan.

"This does not only include food but shoes, alcohol and what other people wear, including leather. I might have been okay with vegan food, but I'm not okay with policing what others wear or food they may bring for their babies, even formula."

She added that this upsets her so much and it's not even about the money, since they are having a very small and affordable wedding.

The father's girlfriend has also been extremely rude to the bride's mother, therefore she decided that they don't attend at all.

"She's now telling my dad's family that it's just about money and that I'm bitter about not getting her father's house, but it's not about money and I don't want to be controlled over what I can and can't do on my wedding day."

Users of the platform took to the comment section to show support to the bride for putting her foot down, with one saying: "I think you're right that it will be better if they don't come, since they can't keep themselves from trying to control everything and everyone around them. It's insufferable and you don't need that headache on your wedding day."

Another added that the girlfriend was also trying to control her father's money: "She just doesn't want your dad to spend a dime of his money on anyone, but her. If you jumped through every single hoop, she'd find more."
