Doja Cat did not feel like she fit in middle school, calling it a 'strange time'.

The Elle June/July cover star revealed that she used to be reprimanded for attending school in colourful and attention-grabbing ensembles.

She told the magazine that one day her look was Harajuku; the next, it was pirate-inspired. The school administrator reprimanded her.

"He was like, 'Get that crap off of your face. Nobody wants to see that. Why do you dress like this? What's the point of dressing like this? You're such a distraction'," she told Elle.

The Grammy-award winning star said, "I never liked the way I looked. I didn't feel like I fit in. I felt like I stuck out all the time, and I didn't like it. It was a strange time."

Doja Cat dropped out of high school, and at 17, she signed a record deal.
