Finally! SA actor to star as Madiba

We’re so proud of actor Tumisho Masha who has landed the prestigious role of playing Tata Madiba in a film that will be made about the ex statesman’s life.

Finally! Isn’t it just sensible to use someone proudly South African who can relate to Nelson Mandela’s life because he grew up on the same soil with the same people? Or is it just me? No offence to Morgan Freeman and Idris Elba - they’re brilliant actors and they played their roles in Invictus and Long Walk to Freedom (respectively) well.

According to Drum, UK director John Irvin hand-picked Tumisho. He adds that South Africans have previously been overlooked by Americans for roles as the statesman because of ‘commercial wisdom’.

The film Mandela’s Gun’ is said to be focused on Tata’s time in military training in, Ethiopia, Tanzania and Sudan.

Meanwhile Long Walk to Freedom premiered in Joburg not too long ago. It will be released on circuit on 28 November, so keep that date open!

Yes, we know they’ve released quite a few Madiba epics, but maybe this one will be the crowning glory of them all? Either way,  I'm sure at the very least it’ll be another interesting film in a long list of movies about the great man.
