Johannesburg - Not all South Africans were pleased with Santa's selection of Christmas gifts, online classified company OLX said on Tuesday.

"The data from OLX.co.za reveals not only a 40% increase in sales since Christmas Day to the second week of January, but also a list of SA's most unwanted Christmas gifts," spokesperson Tamryn Combrink said in a statement on Tuesday.

"The items topping the... for sale list are tablets/iPads, Playstation 3s, mobile phones, treadmills, clothing, kitchen appliances, clutch bags, bicycles, dumbbells, vases, and DVD box sets.

"Surprisingly socks do not appear on the list," she added.

Combrink said the usual trend was that sporting and exercise goods were the first gifts people tried to sell after the holidays.

"We believe this is due to consumers either making way to purchase new sporting goods, or because they are conscious that consumers might be on the look-out for a bargain to help with their post-festive season weight loss."
