Jodie Turner-Smith and her husband Joshua Jackson have opted for a home birth due to the systemic racism in the U.S. health system.

The 33-year-old actress spoke about her concerns and the negative birth outcomes for Black women in the U.S. citing that the risk of pregnancy-related deaths is more than three times greater for Black women than for white women.

Jodie also says she will explain the significance of being born in 2020, with the historic events and social unrest,  to her daughter. She also addresses the pressure on new mothers to get back to normal with a perfect post-pregnancy body.

In her essay for British Vogue she writes, "Nobody really teaches you about what your body goes through to bring a child into the world until you’re actually doing it."

Jodie praised her husband for his support throughout her pregnancy, saying she feels lucky and privileged to have him as her partner.
