A considerate, diplomatic team player. That's your Libra child to a tee, says astrologer and polarity therapist Michaela Meiser.

Ruled by Venus, Libra is often portrayed as a set of balanced scales.

Born between 23 August and 22 September, Libra children have vivid imaginations and will love spending time creating their "own perfect little world," says Meiser.

'Libra needs these qualities to thrive'

As they grow, these children never lose their connection to beauty and art and will do well in natural surroundings.

Your Libra child is also quite the thinker and will thrive on ideas and concepts, Meiser says, advising that parents nurture this quality by supplying their child with lots of books.

The Libra child will also do well with drawing and playing an instrument. Their love for beauty and peace will also see your child easily taking on the role of peacemaker in the family.

"Peace, beauty, and art-loving; Libra needs these qualities to thrive and feel energised and will set out to bring them to any situation," Meiser says.

'Libra loves building bridges'

As a cardinal air sign, your child will thrive on space and action, the astrologer says.

They also have a penchant for socialising and will do well in any team sport where they can hone their knack for "the art of relating".

"Libra loves building bridges, has a sharp eye for the 'right measure' and enjoys making connections – it is the relationship sign," Meiser notes.

As their astrological symbol the scales suggests, these children will strive to create harmony in all areas of their lives. They crave balance.

But understanding how to go about creating balance in their lives will be a learning process. They will need to be given the space for "weighing up the pros and cons of any situation".

'The biggest trap for Libra'

But it may take some practice for the Libra child to get their scales working efficiently, Meiser says of the negative aspects of this desire for balance.

Your child may have a tendency for indecisiveness and the inability to act when necessary. "The biggest trap for Libra is to stay in the realm of ideas and weighing up, and not following through," flags Meiser.

On the flip side, you may see your child going too far to restore balance, especially when it comes to righting a wrong.

"Value is of big importance, and your peace-loving Libra child can become quite a fighter if thwarted."

Another potentially negative trait you might see in your Libra child is vanity. They are the beautifiers of the zodiac, after all.

'Capricorn parents might be too authoritative'

Helping your Libra child understand their need for balance may be easier for parents with Libra as a sun sign.

According to the astrologer, fellow air signs like Gemini and Aquarius will also relate with relative ease.

As far as less compatible parent-child sun sign combinations go, Meiser says for Libra these are usually the water signs – Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces – and earth signs – Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn.

The relationship between Capricorn, Scorpio and Virgo parents may prove particularly harsh for the Libra child.

"Capricorn parents might be too authoritative, Scorpio parents too manipulative, Virgo parents too critical," Meiser cautions.

'A Libra Sun could have a Scorpio Mercury'

The astrologer advises that your child's birth chart will provide a more tailored look at their personality.

"A Libra Sun could have a Scorpio Mercury and so have quite a different colouring, needing more depth in communication. The Moon can be anywhere in the 12-sign circle and presents our habits and need to feel nurtured, and so on."

Astrologically compatible or not, Meiser says parents should see their relationship with their child as an essential part of their own personal growth, especially when there are challenges.

"Too often we expect our little ones to function as we do, and sometimes it's uncanny what learning lessons our children also bring to us in our developmental journey."
