Sometimes it's better to plan ahead for your future to avoid unnecessary stress and unmet deadlines when doing your matric year.

Matric comes with its own stressors that can make your head spin when coupled with preparation for your professional career.

But knowing the important dates for specific bursaries for the 2022 academic year can help you have fewer stressors when furthering your education next year.

'Do research'

When the year starts, it is helpful to research the different degrees available for you to study in each institution. This information can be accessed on the university's website.

Find the student prospectus of these institutions, look at the course you want to do and how much it costs to do that course.

'Keep an eye on bursaries'

Between January and April 2022 – keep an eye on different bursaries that may offer funding support on the area you wish to study.

A wide-ranging list of bursaries is available to students for the 2022-2023 academic year, courtesy of All bursaries.

The Gauteng City Region Bursary, which closes in March, is available for any students residing in Gauteng province who want to study in any field of study.

The Motsepe Foundation Bursary closes in September. It offers bursaries to students looking to study a wide range of subjects.

The Funza Lushaka Bursary closes in October. This bursary provides financial support to students who want to pursue a degree in teaching.

Between September and November 2022, you can make sure that you read up about the NSFAS application, check eligibility and how to apply.

'Track your application'

If you have not yet applied for the University by August, you must hurry up because between August to November 2022, university applications for 2023 usually close. Remember, it is always advisable to get your application as early as possible to avoid disappointment.

By the end of October 2022, the CAO Applications are closing and missing the deadline results in additional fees being required before processing the application, so make sure you do not miss the deadline.

Between September and January 2023, be on the lookout for emails or messages from the universities you have applied for. If you applied via CAO application systems, you could read more about checking your status here.
