- Every love affair begins with some form of chemistry. It may not be love at first sight, but when Cupid's arrow strikes, there's a spark that grows with time spent together, familiarity and the approval of loved ones.
- That's how my love for Crocs started. It wasn't the stuff of fairytales. Instead, my appreciation for this shoe brand was gradual and hesitant.
- Here's how I became a fan of the Crocs brand and what other women think of the brand.
As I learnt more about the Crocs brand and heard good reviews from friends, my interest was piqued, and soon enough, I found myself with my first pair of Crocs. But they had to be black and inconspicuous because I was still reluctant and didn't know if I'd know how to pair them with my regular clothes, which are primarily semi-formal.
But now, many pairs and years later, I can shamelessly say Crocs are my go-to shoe - and that's a big deal for someone who prefers heels, so much so that I don't own any pumps or brogues.

But unlike most conventional relationships, mine with my Crocs isn't monogamous.
Let me explain: I'm a size 6, while most of my family members and nieces are sizes 5, 6 and 7, so they can basically wear my Crocs comfortably (or so they say) – which means on more occasions than not, they do just that. What's more, my brother regularly crosses the line when he wears them on his hands when he does push-ups in the mornings - it's got something to do with how well they grip on the tiled floor.
Needless to say, it's all much to my disapproval, but it doesn't deter the surrogate wearers. So what we have is more a situationship, really.
It's the comfort, ease of wearing, and the fact that you can clean them in seconds that makes them so appealing. However, with the new tie-dye line, I'm no longer too worried about this pair also becoming "the shoe for the nation" (I'm exaggerating, but that's how it feels) because this line is significantly individualised.

"The Tie-Dye Collection is a direct result of the 'Come As You Are' brand ethos, and we encourage individuals from around the country (and the world) to express their personal style with our new collection!" says Ally Petersen, Crocs SA Marketing Manager.
In addition, if you like a little height, there's the Bae version which is the Classic Clog reimagined with an "extra dose of height, attitude, and style."
The brand says, "when you're feeling a little extra, flaunt this range fearlessly."
This is exactly how the tie-dye range makes me feel, fearless that someone else's feet will stealthily slip in while I look away - but only time will tell.
But, enough about my quest to monopolise my Crocs, here's what other women who've owned a pair of Crocs have to say about this shoe brand (updated with recent reader comments):
