Scrub a dub dub!

accreditation
Hi girls

Whilst trawling the beauty blogs the other day I discovered the most horrendous-sounding little snippet. As it turns out, there's a new cosmetic surgery called I-BRITE. Essentially, it involves removing a membrane from your eyes to make them look whiter. (I dunno about you, but just reading that makes my butt cheeks clench up in a knot...)

So, if you feel like good ole' Safyr Bleu just isn't cutting it - or you'd like to try getting away with smoking a little weed on the job – know that you can now simply snip out a particular membrane in which the majority of your eye's blood vessels sit. Once gone, a shiny new one will grow to take its place. It only takes twenty minutes and, apparently, you don't feel a thing. Do I see any takers?

In other news...

Flatiron freaks take note: ghd have just launched their new limited edition Colour Collection range. This consists of four juicy-hued ghd IV stylers; namely 'purple indulgence', 'green envy', 'blue serenity' and 'red lust'. They'll be available at selected salons nationwide at a recommended retail price of R2,250 and come with their own carry case and a cutesy quilted heat-resistant styler pouch.

If you buy one, make sure you SMS the serial number and colour to 33456. This way, you'll stand a chance to win one of four fab-tastic ToyWatches in a shade to match your styler. (Check them out here)

Now, in regards to brand new beauty products... (Leigh claps her hands with excitement)...

Woolworths have given their Private Label skin care range a little make-over, changing the packaging and divvying everything up to create five colour-coded sub-categories depending on your skin type.

The Normal to Dry range is particularly fab in that it features hyaluronic acid. (If you're going 'hya-lu-huh?', here's the skinny. Hyaluronic acid is a substance that occurs naturally in our bodies. Like collagen, we have loads of it when we're young, but as we age, it begins to diminish. Sad news because it's great at keeping your skin juicy-looking and plump, mostly due to the fact that it can hold up to 1000 times its weight in water).

Want to hear about products I got to play with and liked?

Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation, R169.95, is the brand's first radiance-boosting 'fruit therapy' foundation that promises up to 16 hours of coverage. It contains extracts of apricot for radiance, melon for hydration, ginger for energy and apple to act as an antioxidant.

I gave it a bash over the weekend and found it gave matte-looking, medium coverage. The kinda cover that won't hide a monster zit o' death, but certainly helps in evening out your skin tone while adding a nice, healthy glow. I also liked that it lasted just as long as other brands that are better known for extended wear, but didn't make my skin feel dry or tight. The best bit? It smells uber-delish - like those apricot sweets I used to buy at the corner cafe as a kid.

Clicks' new Aromatherapy bath and body range also deserves a mention. For starters, it's cheap n' cheerfully priced (R39,95 to R49,95 per product) yet boasts bathroom-enhancing, classy-looking packaging a la L'Occitane. Even more importantly, it really does make use of authentic aromatherapy essential oils. (You'd be surprised by how many companies feel nothing in regards to adding a few drops of synthetic fragrance to shizz so as to declare they have aromatherapeutic benefits).

I got to try their Relaxing Exfoliating Body Scrub with neroli, lavender and geranium. It comes in a gorgeous little glass jar that looks very small off bat, however, a little of the scrub goes a long way, especially if you apply it to skin that's only just a little damp. (I don't advise that you slap it on while sitting in the tub as it'll just dissolve in a flash and you won't get to make us of the 'scrubby' benefits). I also loved that, due to the high oil content, my skin actually tingled when I got out the bath. I could really feel the oils penetrating my skin, particularly in my lower legs.

Last, but not least... Clarins have brought out three new exfoliators - just the thing to give dull-looking 'winter skin' the back hand! Gentle Peeling Smoothing Peel Away Cream and Gentle Refiner Exfoliating Cream, (both R330) are updated versions of their predecessors. However, Clarins Gentle Exfoliator Brightening Toner, R340, is ultra-new and exciting. Simply apply it once or twice a week to super-cleansed skin and wait a minute before continuing with your regular beauty routine. This gives it's fruit acids (derived from Tamarind extract) time to gently loosen up your dead skin cells, encouraging them to slough off and reveal the fresh new skin that lies beneath. Love that!

Right, all this talk of cellular turnover has sparked a serious urge to skip to my loofah. I'm off to scrub a dub dub...

Til next time!

Love and lip gloss,

Leigh
