Oh American Apparel, when will you learn? Seriously, this brand’s ads get banned so often, we can’t even keep track anymore.
This is the second time in six months that the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has lashed out at the American clothing manufacturer’s campaign as inappropriate, stating that the ad “must not appear again in its current form.”
I, for one, have found almost every single one of American Apparel’s web ads offensive (queue the back-to-school Lolita skirt):
Or the "now open" ad:
But this one doesn't really scream offensive to me. I’ve seen ads more controversial than this for sure.
The red haired model is featured wearing a thong bodysuit. Yes, she looks young, but that’s the thing she looks young, she isn’t – well she’s 21 and in model life that’s considered "old".
The public and ASA have deemed the ad "irresponsible and offensive" because of the suggestive way she’s posing in the picture and the fact that her bum is so very in your face.
I agree with the fact that American Apparel needs to step away from the Lolita-esque poses and consider more appropriate ways to sell to their young audience.
What do you think of American Apparel latest attempt at advertising?
