Shine bright like a South African woman: honouring our strength and resilience

Today’s strong South African woman needs a phone as resilient as she is –managing your day demands energy, performance and innovation – everything you’ll find in Nokia X10.

Read on to find out how to enter and stand a chance to win a Nokia X10.

South African women today come from a long line of strong, fearless, and resilient forerunners and the women continue to embody that spirit, overcoming the uncertainty and the unique challenges being faced.

As we mark the 66th anniversary of strong and brave South African women under the theme of ‘Women’s Socio-Economic Rights and Empowerment: Building Back Better for Women’s Resilience’, we are also celebrating the courage and staying power of the women in South Africa today.

We are proud to share the stories of two women – hairstylist Bomzi Lekgoro and photographer Basetsana Maluleka – who are pioneers in their careers, but are also brand ambassadors for HMD Global, the home of Nokia phones.

Celebrity hair stylist, businesswoman and mother Bomzi Lekgoro reflects the dedication and commitment of past generations of South African women, using patience and discipline to get to where she is today: a trendsetter creating the looks and styles as head hair stylist for a popular reality programme on Showmax. Working crazy hours hasn’t slowed her down and, spurred on by the inspiration she gets from her mother and daughter, she believes that being a woman in South Africa currently means creating a life that’s full of endless possibilities.

Passionate, self-taught photographer and upcoming cinematographer Basetsana Maluleka knows that the ability to create a life of possibilities as a woman in SouthAfrica means being prepared to fail and doing so gracefully – but it is also important to get up and keep on going. working in a male-dominated industry, Basetsana has had to prove her expertise – but remembering why she started and seeing how far she has come, combined with the inspiration her hard-working partner gives her. She strongly believes we still have a long way to go and a lot of work to do to ensure the priority of women empowerment is at the forefront of everything.

“South African women today continue to show that they have the determination to overcome the challenges they face to achieve success, which is why we are proud to be able to partner with women like Bomzi and Basetsana. We will support them with Nokia phones that can go the distance and keep up with their busy lifestyles. We are excited to see how their strength and dedication will take them to greater heights,” says Khosi Sanni, Marketing Manager at HMD Global.
