Angel Maker by Stefan Brijs (Weidenfeld & Nicolson)
Doctor Victor Hoppe is the main character in this story of hidden agendas and sordid pasts. He arrives back in his home town after many years and stirs up quite a few rumors when he brings along triplet boys are all identical to their father – in more ways than one.
This book took me a few tries before I could get into it but once it did, it sucked me in and just wouldn't let me go.
I found myself swinging from not being able to stand the main character to wanting to protect him.
The introduction of other characters like Charlotte (the triplet's care taker) and of course the mysteriously odd triplets themselves, just made me more and more curious about the next happenings in the book.
At one stage the very strange past and present of Victor Hoppe becomes intertwined as the author, Stefan Brijs, takes us on a seesaw journey through the doctor's life. The story jumps around quite a bit at this point but is never confusing and always easy to follow.
From finding out how the doctor's sons come into being and what exactly Victor had to go through as a boy, this book is brilliantly written and one I may just read again!
