Sotheby's New York has unveiled a pair of sneakers that could be the first to be sold for a million dollars (about R15 million).

And this porcelain sneaker named 'ZX8000' is going under the hammer.

This creation is by Adidas and porcelain maker Meissen, and it includes overlays of porcelain on the leather shoes.

High Snobiety reports that the "one-of-one sneaker was assembled over a six-month period, as the premium adidas leather hand-painted by Meissen and the hand-made Meissen porcelain overlays come together on a design that weighs in at exactly 950 grams."

The ZX8000 Porcelain is on online-only auction on Sothebys.com from 7 - 16 December, and the proceeds from the sale will be given to the Brooklyn Museum to fund art programing for local youth.
