What are your wardrobe resolutions for 2014?

The New Year is a wonderful time to start with a clean slate. If you don’t feel quite ready to plunge into the New Year, get yourself ready by following these few easy steps.

It worked for me.

1. Decide to only wear what makes you feel fabulous. Too many times we settle for kinda, sorta, close, maybe, or “it’ll do”. This year…. decide not to settle.

2. De-clutter your wardrobe. There is nothing like an organised wardrobe to give you a fresh start. But, this does mean that you need to get rid of all those kinda, sorta’s. It’s time to give away all that you do not wear.

Get real with yourself. If you wardrobe is still full of clothing for a body, lifestyle or life stage that used to be you… then it’s time to let it go. You need to clear out what doesn’t work for you, so you can make space for what does.

3. What doesn’t work for you, may work for someone else. This especially helps if you are a hoarder. I frequently de-clutter my wardrobe and donate to a safe house for abuse women.

It helps me to let go of clothing I hardly wear, knowing that it can be a blessing to someone else. My favourite Safe Houses are Sister’s Incorporated in Cape Town, Kerr House in Durban and Bethany House in Joburg.

4. Decide to love the body you have. I’m not saying that you shouldn’t make healthier choices, but I am saying that’s important to accept what you cannot or are not prepared to change.

Developing a healthy body image has less to do with what you look like and A LOT to do with what you THINK about what you look like.

5. Resolve to only buy what you love and feel fabulous in. It’s great to get rid of doesn’t work for you, but it won’t help if you just refill it with the same kind of thing.

Next time you are tempted to buy something, ask yourself if you really love it, if it suits your body shape, if you will wear it often and if it accurately represents your personal style. If the answers are yes… then it’s worth adding to your wardrobe.
