Fashion rules are meant to be broken. And Brad Pitt did just that when he wore a skirt to the premiere of his latest film, Bullet Train.

The action star caught the attention of many and had the internet blowing up with his choice of a brown linen skirt, paired with a matching jacket, flowy salmon shirt and a pair of punk-style boots.

Speaking with Sky News, the actor described the outfit as breezy, saying: "It's all about the breeze, the breeze is very nice... very, very nice."

But, let's be honest, it was about more than just the breeze; it was about making a bold statement and bending gender norms when it comes to fashion, and we love it.

Mind you, this is not the first time a male star has worn a skirt on a red carpet in recent years. Billy Porter took us all to fashion heaven with his skirt tuxedo at the 2019 Oscars, and Harry Styles had us swooning when he wore a skirt for Vogue.

Gender roles no longer have a place in fashion, with many stars and style icons choosing gender-neutral fits that make them look and feel good. So why are we still so surprised that a male celeb would opt for a flowy skirt at a star-studded event?

I get it, Brad Pitt has, for the longest time, been the epitome of the "manly" action star - rugged and rough, with just the right amount of "pretty boy". So, is that where the shock factor stemmed from for some?

If so, let me take you on a little trip down memory lane. Brad has never been afraid to bend the rules of fashion, and in 1999, rocked a series of mini dresses, including a pink sequined number, for a photo shoot by Mark Seliger while promoting the film Fight Club

That said, while Brad still got some negative reviews for his fashion choice on the Bullet Train red carpet, I'd like to think that much of it was aimed at the way he chose to style his outfit rather than the fact that his outfit consisted of a skirt.

Surely we've progressed beyond the point where fashion is confined by gender. Also, any opportunity we get to see Brad Pitt's toned calves is a great one.
