- The Cape Town City Ballet has announced its collaboration with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Brandon Phillips.
- Together they are returning to Artscape for three performances that will take place from 10 to 12 December.
- This comes after the ballet company announced retrenching some of its dancers after being without income for five months.
During the six month period from level five to level two of the state imposed Covid-19 lockdown, gatherings of more than 50 people were prohibited. This has had dire effects on various arts and culture industries because facilities cancelled their programmes for the better part of 2020, resulting in no box office income. As a result, Cape Town based cultural institutions like The Fugard, Artscape, The Baxter, District Six Museum and the Cape Town City Ballet have been facing financial difficulties.
On 17 September 2020 the Cape Town City Ballet announced the retrenchment of some of its dancers.
For the first five months of lockdown, City Ballet managed to sustain itself without its usual ticket sale income. During that time the company explored alternative streams of income that were meant to append what the City Ballet had saved from implementing salary cuts for the board, admin staff and dancers.
On 30 November 2020 the Cape Town City Ballet announced its collaboration with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Brandon Phillips. Together they are returning to Artscape for three performances.

Set to be performed from 10 to 12 December 2020 the Cape Town City Ballet - Back on Stage programme features two works: George Balanchine’s Serenade and Moon Behind the Clouds. The works were made during lockdown by South African choreographers Veronica Paeper, Celeste Botha, Kirsten Isenberg, Yaseen Manuel, Lindy Raizenberg, Louisa Talbot and Marlin Zoutman.
Due to state-imposed Covid-19 regulations, limited seats will be available.
