Family and friends attended a memorial service for kwaito artist Mshoza on Wednesday.

Those closest to Mshoza, celebrated her life during a service held at Bassline in Newton in Johannesburg. 

The venue was decorated with white roses, and candles as mourners gathered to pay their respects. As the venue followed strict Covid-19 precautions, the ceremony was also broadcast online.

Mshoza, whose real name is Nomasonto Maswanganyi, died on Thursday.

Speaking to Channel24, Mshoza's manager Thanduxolo Jindela confirmed that the artist died of complications from diabetes, adding that she tested negative for Covid-19.

Sharing a message with Mshoza's fans, Thanduxolo told Channel24: "I would like to thank the fans and the public for continuous support during these hard times. Mshoza must be smiling right now."

He added: "She was very dear to her people and they have shown so much love and support 'til the last day. Let her music be the reminder that Mshoza is the Township Queen of kwaito."
