  • Reason has teased visuals for his latest single, After Tears.
  • The song was released on Friday.
  • It was produced by DJ Stokie and Tycoon and features vocals from Boohle.

Sizwe Alakine better known as award-winning rapper Reason, has given fans a peek of the music video for his latest single, After Tears.

The song, which was released on Friday, features vocals from Boohle and was produced by DJ Stokie and Tycoon.

According to a press statement, the song was recorded last year but became a "personal prophecy" for Reason earlier this year, following the loss of two close friends and industry mates – Ricky Rick and DJ Dimples. Ricky Rick died by suicide in February, while DJ Dimples died following a brain hemorrhage in March.

Toward the end of the reflective Amapiano song, Reason mourns the loss of two of his friends by asking, "mngani wami, bhade lam, mara vele why ungishiya ngi’one?" (my friend, my buddy, why would you leave me alone?).

"I've always believed music to be reflective of the human experience; at the time of recording, I had no idea that the song would hit home for me, having encountered multiple losses in a personal capacity. This song is an ode to all those who have passed on, something we've all experienced, particularly during the pandemic. My music continues to tell our stories and heal us," the rapper said in the press statement."

Speaking about her vocals in the song with the quadruple SA Hip Hop Award winner, Boohle said she could immediately relate to the song after hearing it.

"The first vocal that I'd recorded somehow went missing, and Sizwe waited for me to return from my trip to London to re-record. This is a big song that’s relevant to the times we're living in."

Producer DJ Stokie said he was excited to have worked with Boohle, while Tycoon said it was an honour to have worked with "such established acts whose artistry I respect."

"This song is a banger!" Tycoon said.

Sizwe Alakine will release his debut Amapiano album later this year.
