Is Julia Garner a material girl living in a material world?
Variety reports the Inventing Anna actor has been offered the role of Madonna in a forthcoming biopic set up by Universal Pictures.
Sources familiar with the project told the publication Garner emerged as the favourite from over a dozen candidates and has been speculated as a frontrunner for the part for months.
Madonna will reportedly direct the film, which "will follow the early days of the often-controversial artist and queen of perpetual reinvention," while Amy Pascal is attached to produce it.
The gruelling audition process saw names including Florence Pugh, Euphoria star Alexa Demie, and Odessa Young in contention for the role.
Of the biopic, Madonna said she hoped to "convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer — a human being, trying to make her way in this world. The focus of this film will always be music. Music has kept me going, and art has kept me alive. There are so many untold and inspiring stories, and who better to tell them than me. It's essential to share the roller coaster ride of my life with my voice and vision."
A production timeline and other principal cast are still unknown.
