Jodie Turner-Smith has reportedly been robbed of jewellery worth over €10 000 (R170 342) after her hotel room was burglarised in Cannes.

The 34-year-old attended the premieres of her film After Yang at the 74th Cannes Film Festival.

According to Variety, the Queen & Slim actor staying at the Marriot hotel was having breakfast when her room was broken into. Robbers got away with precious jewels, including her mother's wedding ring.

The actor tweeted on Friday afternoon: "Didn't think I would be spending 2.5 hours in the police station on my final day in Cannes, but here we are..."

It is believed that Jodie - who is the face of Gucci High Jewellery - was targeted after wearing gold and diamond jewellery by the brand on the red carpet. The jewellery was immediately returned after the premiere. It is speculated that the robbers thought the jewellery was still in her possession.

Local French news outlet Nice-Matin reported that the theft occurred between 12:00-14:00 on Friday and did not name the hotel or the actor. There were reportedly no signs of a break-in as the room is accessed via a magnetic keycard, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
