Pop star Lizzo caused some confusion after she stated last week that she was quitting and was tired of being targeted for her looks and character, according to AFP.

The Grammy winner did not specify what she was quitting, making fans think she would stop making music.

Lizzo clarified what she meant by 'quitting' in a video uploaded to Instagram on 2 April.

"I wanna make this video because I just need to clarify when I say, 'I quit'," she said.

"I quit giving any negative energy attention," the 35-year-old singer said. "What I'm not gonna quit is the joy of my life, which is making music, which is connecting to people because I know I'm not alone."

"In no way, shape or form am I the only person who is experiencing that negative voice that seems to be louder than the positive," she continued.

She stated:

If I can just give one person the inspiration or motivation to stand up for themselves and say they quit letting negative people win, negative comments win, then I've done even more than I could have hoped for.

"With that being said, I'm going to keep moving forward. I'm gonna keep being me once again. I just wanna say thank you for the love that I've received. Means more than you know," she added.

Lizzo has built her brand on self-love and positivity but was sued by three of her former dancers last year after they alleged sexual, religious and racial harassment, AFP reported.

A judge dismissed some of the claims but denied the singer's motion to toss out the lawsuit.

Lizzo made her original statement about quitting last week Friday.

"I'm getting tired of putting up with being dragged by everyone in my life and on the internet," she wrote in a statement on Instagram.

"All I want is to make music and make people happy and help the world be a little better than how I found it," she continued.

"But I'm starting to feel like the world doesn't want me in it," the About Damn Time singer said. "I didn't sign up for this shit. I QUIT."
