The estate of iconic singer Prince has shared a previously unheard track by the late musician titled, Born 2 Die.

The song is taken from Welcome 2 America, Prince's unreleased 2010 album, which will officially be made available in July 2021.

According to Prince's long-time director, Morris Hayes, who co-produced Born 2 Die, the track was recorded as a rebuttal to Dr Cornel West, who said Prince was "no Curtis Mayfield".

An Instagram post tells the story: "As Morris recalls, 'He had been watching videos of his friend Dr Cornel West on YouTube, and during one speech Dr West said, 'I love my brother Prince, but he's no Curtis Mayfield.' So Prince said, 'Oh really? We will see.'"
