Founded in 2006, Spotify makes its money through user fees, capital investment, data collection and advertising. On 29 October 2020 reporting on the platform’s third quarter, Variety said that the streaming platform had received 6 million new subscribers. This resulted in them having a total of 144 million paying customers and 320 million active users. In addition to this growth, the platform announced growth in advertising income, and a successful launch in Russia and 12 surrounding territories.
