Actor and dancer Hungani Ndlovu is not trying to replace former Skeem Saam actor Cornet Mamabolo as he takes over the role of Thabo 'Tbose' Maputla. Ndlovu makes his debut on Monday, 3 July, with his character returning to the streets of Turfloop "under unfavourable circumstances".

Ndlovu was introduced as one of the new faces viewers will see on the edutainment soapie when its 12th season begins. He takes over from Mamabolo, who left the show in 2021 to focus on his insurance business.

"Stepping into a recast type of role is tremendously – the amount of pressure is just like beyond," he said in a recent interview with Kaya 959's Tshegohacho Moagi. "Cornet did an amazing job at playing Tbose for over 11 years."

I'm not here to replace Cornet. I could never; it's impossible.

Ndlovu added that the show's storyline allowed him to create a new Maputla, which gives audiences and actors "something new to engage with".

The father of one rose to fame for his portrayal of Romeo Medupe on e.tv weeknight drama, Scandal!.

The Magongwa and Maputla families will leave viewers wondering if they will ever get past their differences after angrily exchanging words and accusations.
