High-energy theatrics characterises Lottering's performance. His show is semi-biographical in how he comedically details experiences from different parts of his life.

Speaking to News24 about his musical Aunty Merle Things Get Real, Lottering said he always tries to have a new story for his iconic character.

"When it comes to my stand-up, I usually write and talk about whatever is happening in my life," he said.

"As far as the musical comedy Aunty Merle Things Get Real goes, when creating the story, I could not ignore the fact that the world finds itself in a delicate space post-Covid, to say the least," the comedian added.
