  • Showmax's Red Ink lead actor Bonko Khoza has expressed his gratitude after the show's final episode aired.
  • He played twin characters, the Dingiswayo brothers.
  • The thriller series was an adaptation of Angela Makholwa-Moabelo's best-selling novel of the same name.

The lead actor of Showmax's Red Ink, Bonko Khoza has expressed his gratitude after the show's final episode aired.

The thriller series was an adaptation of Angela Makholwa-Moabelo's best-selling novel of the same name.

The show tells the story of journalist-turned-publicist Lucy Khambule, who is approached by an imprisoned serial killer, played by Bonko Khoza, to tell his story.

Taking to his Instagram on Tuesday, Khoza, who managed to get himself praised for the role and his past characters, wrote a lengthy post naming all the people who have contributed to the production.

"I just wanted to take this moment to say thank you to all the viewers who came with us on this journey called Red Ink. It was an incredible task that was put before all of us. Thank you, Mzansi. Thank you so much for accepting the work we did and enjoying and sharing and engaging. It really means a lot."

He thanked the channel, production company and the author for trusting him to play the Dingiswayo Brothers.

'"It was never going to be easy but your support every step of the way was truly so valuable and appreciated. @angusgibson For ages, we wanted to do something together, and you always reassured us that it'll come, and when it does, it'll be just perfect. I'm proud of the work we did and hope it's only the first of many," he wrote.

The actor also thanked his co-star and co-lead, Nqobile Khumalo.

"Thank you for bringing Lucy to life in the most beautiful and captivating way. It was not by any means an easy task, but you handled it with so much grace. I will forever be a fan of your work."

Previously speaking to News24, Khumalo said that the character she played challenged her.

I had to be in deep investigation before taking on this character because I knew the kinds of scenes that we had to shoot, especially the interrogations with [Napoleon] Dingiswayo in the prison. So I knew it was a high-tension story, and I don't come across that kind of intensity in my everyday life.

"So I knew I had to immerse myself in another world, and I tried my best to do that, and maybe I took it a little bit overboard because I wanted to meet actual serial killers, and then people had to hold me back and say, 'Ma'am, please just perform let's not take this too far'."

Khoza was previously asked what playing the role of Napoleon taught him about the mind of a serial killer. He shared which material gave him some background and topped it off with a lesson he learned from being a new parent.

"There's a show called I Am A Killer, which talks about this person's past and what led to them being like this. In the beginning, it's told through his point of view, and he talks about his background. Then, in the other half of the show, his victims give accounts of what happened."

'"I've got a child now, and when I see her, she's an angel. It would be crazy for anyone to intentionally raise a killer like Napoleon. Nobody is born evil. Every serial killer was once a child with a dream. It's the world that changes us."
