After the death of veteran anchor Derek Watts, Carte Blanche seems like a different place. And not just because of a new set since July at Stark Studios.

Like a changing season, even before his cancer diagnosis, several incremental shifts became visible at the show this year – slowly at first, and then rapidly – ushering in a next era at the venerable Sunday night TV institution on M-Net.

Showrunner John Webb, the executive producer of the long-running Sunday night actuality programme that marked its 35th anniversary in August, sat down with Thinus Ferreira to reflect on how the show that gave DStv subscribers "the right to see it all" is once again adapting and changing with the times within a wider TV biz undergoing tremendous change of its own.
