Magic, Power, and Femme Fatale. Amazon Prime Video has launched the debut season of their thrilling new fantasy series, based on the books by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson with the same namesake, The Wheel of Time.
Following the success of the pilot’s launch alongside two follow-up episodes on 19 November, the show marks one of the biggest Amazon Prime Video Original show launches to date. In fact, Amazon Studios head, Jennifer Salke told Deadline that the Wheel of Time debut was, “the most-watched series premiere of the year and one of the Top 5 series launches of all time for Prime Video.”
And it’s no wonder why, with the incredibly rich fantasy world brought to life through Academy Award Nominee Rosamund Pike leading role as the magical protagonist, Moiraine of the Aes Sedai clan. In the book series, the Aes Sedai is a group of women who can channel the ‘One Power’ and are trained at the ‘White Tower’. The novel series epic saga spans 14 volumes, in addition to a prequel novel and two companion books, so there’s a wealth of story-lines and epic tales for Amazon Prime Video to pull from for the show.
Often compared to the fantasy world of Game of Thrones, Wheel of Time similarly allows viewers to be transported to an otherworldly realm and explore the carefully mapped out worlds, creatures (including dragons), languages, and myths all from the comfort of your couch.

How many season and episodes are there?
The first season of The Wheel of Time will consist of eight episodes, The first three episodes premiered on Amazon Prime Video on Friday 19th November 2021, with a weekly release schedule and the finale set to be released on Friday 24th December. And good news - Amazon Prime Video has already confirmed that Season 2 has been given the greenlight and will be going ahead.
Where was the show filmed?
While the world of the series is fictional, the setting for the show was backdropped predominantly by Prague in the Czech Republic and Dubrovnik in Croatia and allegedly partly in Slovenia.
